4x4 Build Ep.8 - Roof, Seat, Front End

Latest video: eeclone.info/glo/pGu7enRun5iFu4o/video
In this video I'm drilling holes and bolting down the wire mesh cargo hull divider from the old Peugeot Partner to the still-not-welded-yet roll bar. To mount the driver's seat level to the ground I have to consider the slope I gave the tube frame bottom half couple of episodes ago and fabricate the seat mounts accordingly. Then I continue with the boxy tube frame construction on the front and finish the week off by building the roof frame which still has to be connected to the front end. I already ordered lights for this UTV and hopefully they'll arrive next week and I can incorporate the shape and size of the LED lights into the project. This project will continue next week.
This is part of a series of a four wheel drive utility vehicle build to lessen the work load on my trusty 2002 Honda Foreman Rubicon TRX500FA. This partially answers the question "Why?" but for those who want to ask "why don't you just buy a side-by-side instead of building one?" I just want to say - I'm not made of money. Side-by-sides are ridiculously expensive, even the car I drive around daily is worth less (not worthless though!), hell, it is even worth less than my 2002 Honda ATV.
"How much HP will it have?" - the 1.4 litre FWD petrol engine I'm planning on using has 55 kw and this will not change, but the torque will be tripled via the BMW differentials I'm using to transfer power to front and rear axles.
"It will be too heavy!" - this project just like the firewood processor project does not have to float. And a heavier vehicle will handle better anyway when hauling heavy loads.
Stay tuned for future episodes! Thanks for watching!

  • Want more fabrication videos? There are plenty on eeclone.infovideos

    • My work consists from sitting around only. Nice job, I hope you'll show much more testdriving of that beast. Tracked vehicle was poorly observed.

    • Brilliant Donn ,I think you should patent this, its going to be fantastic when its finished

  • Great series so far. Ever try a rivet nut? Handy as hell for jobs like that divider.

  • ola meu amigo sou o Diego POLICARPO aqui do BRASIL. SOU SEU FÃ. parabéns pelo trabalho. gostaria de ser igual a vc .um forte abraço p vcs todos ai 👍👍👍🙋‍♂️🙋‍♂️🙋‍♂️

  • rubber washer on the bars

  • I'm from Indonesia, I like the video

  • doesn't appear to be much leg room.

    • I'm 6'4" / 192 cm and yes, would like to have more leg room everywhere. 😁

  • ارجو من صاحب هذا العمل ان يكمل انهاء العمل ويطلقه للمشاهدة عمل جميل جدا

  • Hope you went back and rewelded the rollbar after you ground it smooth I saw a crack one spot but I’m liking how it is coming along so well. I’m jealous on the fact you have the ability to build it 👍🏻👍🏻

  • You are good 🤟🤟

  • Genial!!!!!

  • Donn thks for the great vids you are a great designer an builder keep up the great work Sid from Canada

  • Super project

  • The people at artic cat are watching. They'll copy it in a few years .😉😉

  • toujours, un très bon travail!!

  • Donn you are Russian? Ukrainian? Belarus? This is not the first video I've looked at your metalworking machine made in the USSR. Repeatedly in the video there are things that come from the Soviet Union, or from Russia (the engine from the snowmobile Buran, new clutch cylinders from LADA, when building the air compressor you started the electric motor with a switch from the USSR, the junction box and the insides of it were also signed in Russian letters).

    • I'm from Estonia.

  • I get it that you are all about making. It would also be very nice to see all the stuff you have made and some chores done with the trailer, amphib etc :-)

    • @Donn DIY EEclone is not really the right site for vids of you using your "equipment" - there are others though ;-) Looking forward to some videos where you use what you have made for chores and tasks. Both firewood processing and the amphib (I bet there are some beavers that need a visit). You do good stuff with your storytelling.

    • Videos of using my equipment are inevitable since in February for example I have to start making firewood again with my homemade firewood processor for the next couple of Winters (not ideal leaving only one Summer for the first batch to season but the second one will be well seasoned). And I have to get out of the forest a couple of dried up Spruces and cut them into lumber. So you see what I mean. More videos will come. 😉

  • Very good work. You and your welder are a good Team. But to much advertising that is bad.

  • did u soon put the engine & transmission on the roof ?..i have lot of question on my mind & keep wonder why & how

    • Engine will be on the left of the driver.

  • Iste on vist peale keevitamist auke täis? Hea oleks katta see töö ajaks tuletekiga.

    • Veel ei ole. Aga olen selle võimalusega arvestanud. 😁

  • Great work! I say, why buy a UTV when you have the skills and time to build one? Not to mention the youtube income potential.

  • Impressionnant, quel travail, une qualité de précisions, de minuties, finitions. Je suis en admiration, époustouflé. Sans oublier le montage vidéo de très bonne qualité. chapeau bas. Impressive, what work, a quality of details, minutiae, finishes. I am in awe, blown away. Not to mention the very good quality video editing. hat low.

  • Mis pärast on juhi istme parem poolt?

    • Mootoriasetuse tõttu - mootor tuleb vasakule. / Due to the engine placement - engine will be mounted to the left of the pilot.

  • Hope that you some day fabricate a mini excevator

    • Might be an option! 👍

  • *Whenever you start to build something, I noticed, You finish that into a Tank.* Why are you adding so much mass in a little cart?

  • This channel and Mike Festiva are my favorite ones to watch. Thank you for the content

  • New viewer here. Just binge watched the tracked amphibious vehicle build and this one. You rock man! The quality of your work is excellent and you're very creative. Thanks for the quality content👍🏻👍🏻

  • Excellent

  • awesome!

  • Oui il a une bonne tête ce 4x4 ! Avec quel moteur ???

  • Made in Poland brought me here!

  • That you have the facility and materials to build yourself a seat upon which to sit around and ponder, your work is amazingly successful ! Carry on!

  • Hey Don! You worth your weigth in bitcoin :) I'd like to be on your tribe after the planet is locked down. Keep it up mate _/\_

  • you just cant put a price on an engineers imagination :) vinge värk. edu

  • hey when you get prints made up i want a set

  • Parabéns pela iniciativa muito top 👏

  • Did you build this cold cut saw yourself?

  • Awesome work, Donn! Can't wait to see the final vehicle in all its glory. The front slope reminds me of the CybrTrk... Would love to see a build like this, but electric (batteries down low, one motor per diff).

  • Love seeing this take shape!

  • Great work Donn, I could sit and watch for as long as it takes so keep up the good work, markUK

  • dude, Im 34, i suffer form Anxiety, depression, i have some cronic pain, a recent surgery, dude thank u, this tamkes my brain away for few minutes.

  • Keep up the good work! :)

  • Back wheels are way to close to the cage .Mud and junk will build up and cause you trouble.

  • Put the first led lights at an angle so it will look aggressive.

  • One of the best and most creative YT Fabbers! WTG Donn! 👍

  • I think the roofline should have been half the degree of the forward/engine bonnet too give it a sleek/racer look instead of a boxy look. Loving this build !🇨🇦

  • I think it's turning out great! My son and I love watching these videos! Very inspiring to watch! My son wanted to know how many hours you have into the production of this video? Thank you Donn!

  • Amazing degree of craftsmanship. And always well-shot and right to the point. Thanks for putting this content out there and giving us all something to strive for.

  • Hey man, i missed alot., this is the 8th episode of new project. Amazing. I admire you bro.

  • Hai...i from Malaysia...i so enjoy watch your video...go job..

  • А зачем дырки сверлит?

  • Looks great (again) !!! Just wait a new episode....

  • Lo quiero ver terminado

  • Another thing I like is you know when to add the fast forward and when not to. Perfect 👌!

  • Constructive criticism is always welcome but it has its limits. In the time I’ve followed you I’ve sometimes told you what I do at my shop BUT I’ve always added that This works for me. That doesn’t mean it works for everyone. I would love a liquid cooled saw but I can’t justify the expense for what I need it for. Guess I will just risk burning down my shop 😊! Just keep doing what you do. 99% of us LOVE your channel and learn from every episode. Thanks!!

  • Красавчик 👍👍👍

  • Pretty gooood! Can't wait to see the next installment of this build. Cheers from Sydney Australia! 🇦🇺🐨🦘🇦🇺👍

  • Yet again I watch one of your videos and now I want to go fab something. Thanks. ~P

  • I suggested you should use a lighter weight sport seats it also looks amazing on UTV.

  • I wanna come to Estonia and hang out with you!

  • OH NO..............YOU HAVE ANGLE GRINDERS THROWING SPARKS...........YOU'RE GONA BURN DOWN YOUR BARN!!!! WOW............I don't see a lot of petrol or paraffin(gasoline and diesel in USA) lying around to catch fire so I think your safe Donn. So....FWD transaxle and V-twin industrial engine similar to the tracked vehicle????? Draw the plans and I'll buy a set off you Donn.

  • 🚴‍♂️🏎🏍🛷🛴🛹🛵🚚🚘🛶🚀🛸👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

  • The driver's seat is on the wrong side LOL

  • Great job once again brother! 👍

  • Project is looking good man! Really enjoy your videos. Added you on Patreon.

  • во даёт. чувак огонь, красава. собрать багги в гараже это вам не это

  • Dang dude nice job this thing is going to be cool.

  • That thing looks awesome, nice job i will be interested in plans for this

  • lookin great Donn!

  • OK 👍

  • Looking good buddy! 👍

  • Don, you need to ship it to the USA so that we can see it run at Moab and the Rubicon trail. Look them up. We will host you.

  • You are an incredible fabricator! Love watching you work. I’ve gotten lots of good ideas from you!

  • 2:56, what was that sound?

  • 💯 🔝

  • This is getting more awesome! Your fabrication skills have become legendary.

  • Yooouuu " D" what SAP , BROO!! SALUDOS: from New York !!.. The 4 x 4 look good !!..you thinkin yuo finish before this year is goen ?. I know you have a work to do.. .

  • You should get yourself some rivnuts. Instead of welding nuts you drill a hole and install these nuts and it is simple and very clean install. It will fit many thicknesses of materials. People who say that evolution saw will burn down our shop have never used one. Abrasive cutoff saws are way more of a hazard with more heat. your grinder can set fire to your shop, do they want you to stop using that. LOL You are doing very nice work young man .Keep it up.

  • I tell people when I'm building its 90% staring and thinking, then 10% actually building lol

  • Have you ever consider building or buying a tube bender device? I guess you could do many parts out of a single tube instead of cutting and welding and may save you some time

  • Its coming along nicely! I was thinking on building half track style UTV, but maybe something like this would be easier and suit my needs.

  • It’s looking great Donn! Wonderful project, I’m hoping to get started on mine soon. Take care

    • @fowletm1992 Right on 👍 I really appreciate it!

    • Just watched all your articulated dump truck videos Great job You got a sub out of me, can't wait for the next project

    • Dude 🤘 I'm so looking forward to seeing that.

  • I wish you'd keep the safety glasses on!!!!!!!!!!

  • What name tolls you us before drill make a hole

  • Wicked nice man good job

  • Need a nutzert tool

  • Donn, did you take into account the caster angle of the front struts when making the top mounts? So they self-centre and you don't get steering wobble. Looking very good - and I like the boxy styling...

    • @Daniel D Tell that to the shopping trolleys I often get! ;-)

    • At those speeds that the UTV will operate, there will be no speed wobble.

  • I am currently getting the supplies ready for a similar build and would love to know what tires you’re using

    • Thanks for answering, it’s not common now

    • Kenda Executioner 28x11-14

  • That saw is going to leak and flood your shop.

  • Very cool. Needs a PTO.

  • Every week I look forward to your new vid! And for the record, you can ignore the naysayers. They've obviously never watched all your projects finished to an awesome final product. Love your vids man, keep it up!

  • Nice video. Good progress. Whats the point of the "drain holes"?

    • Airing out the tubes from condensation and welding gases.

  • Be careful with the angle grinder that you don’t cause a fire and burn down your workshop Donn! (Joke) 🤣🤣

  • Lookkiiiing goooood Donn, i still don't know how the 4x4 system will work though.

    • @CurlyG65 Yes.

    • @Donn DIY But Cars, front or rear wheel drive have an open differential, the power goes to the wheel with the least resistance, replacing the Wheels with differentials will only transfer the power to the least resistance..you need a Centre Diff Lock.

    • FWD engine installed longitudinal next to the pilot and FWD half axles connected to the BMW diffs.

  • I found that migging over magnets messes up the weld, i usually have to make a dirty spot weld then remove the magnets

  • Nice seat. lol

  • Should have had a waterproof seat, something like imitation leather or something. But I guess you could just get a new seat from the wreckers if this one gets to bad. Do it cheap. 😁👍🏻

  • Projeto tá muito bom!!!

  • Super travail, un plaisir de te regarder faire, j attend toujours les prochaines avec impatience 👍

  • Build me sir with a bed to haul my hunting gear . Lol. Good job !

  • Why you dont talk.. Always just writes 🤔
